About Chris

My step into the political realm is largely inspired by my grandfather, who played a pivotal role in shaping my worldview and instilled in me the value of civil discourse. Born in Holland and raised in Zeeland, I grew up very involved at Central Wesleyan Church. After graduating from Zeeland East High School I attended GVSU for engineering. I had a dream of opening a space where the community could gather and in 2019 I got the opportunity to help start Tulip City Brewstillery. I was the Head Brewer and a member of leadership at Tulip City Brewstillery and Hopland Brewstillery. The sale of the breweries this past spring has given me the opportunity to run for this position.

Priorities

Fiscal Responsibility

I’m ready to bring a fresh, working-class perspective to the board. I believe in practical governance over political ideology, and I’m committed to ensuring that government services are fair and non-political. Our tax dollars should be used wisely—to serve the community—not wasted on divisive, partisan agendas. We’ve seen irresponsible spending and mismanagement, and it’s time to change course. I will prioritize smart decisions that protect your hard-earned dollars and invest them back into the things that truly benefit all of us—whether it’s better infrastructure, more affordable housing, or protecting our environment.

Transparency and Responsible Governance

Transparency requires information to be public in a timely and appropriate manner. It requires accessibility, honesty, clear language, and consistency in processes. Transparency is the foundation of trust, and it’s something we’re missing in Ottawa County right now. People deserve to know how decisions are being made and have a say in them. I will ensure that our government is open and honest—no more hidden agendas, no more closed-door meetings. I’ve talked with people across the political spectrum, and it’s clear that they want government that listens and is accountable. My opponent runs with a party that has shut out diverse viewpoints, but I’m running with a commitment to listening to everyone and working collaboratively. This isn’t about partisanship; it’s about making sure our government works for all of us.

Inclusivity and Diversity

Diversity and inclusivity are key elements of a truly representative democracy. That means including and welcoming constituents of all backgrounds in the process. More importantly, it means considering how policy will affect all demographics.

What matters most: Our Community

I’ve spent my entire life here in and around Zeeland, and I know firsthand the power of coming together to support one another. This is what makes Ottawa County special—our sense of community, our shared values. I believe in fostering that sense of belonging for everyone who calls this county home. I’m committed to building bridges, bringing people together, and creating a culture of unity and respect. We don’t all have to agree on everything, but we can create an environment where we can discuss our differences without fear or hostility. That’s how we build a thriving county.
